This was definitely one of those projects that seemed a little more play than work, and as I actually began my career in Fashion design, merging illustration and Fashion has always been a happy place for me (Plus working with passionate and creative brands is a huge drawcard)...
Read MoreThe Met Gala is one of Fashion's biggest nights out and something to mark on the calendar if you derive any pleasure in fashion, celebrity or art. It takes place annually in New York as a charity ball for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. Each year the theme of the current costume exhibit is carried into the dress code for the Met Gala and usually results in some memory making ensembles.
This year's exhibit was honouring Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo, entitled “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.”
This crumpled string of words, colour and sky is a work of heart. A culmination of ideas and inspiration that have been swirling in my head, and it is such a wonderful feeling to have painted them into existence.
As with every new illustration all it takes is a flicker of inspiration to set my mind off. However this flicker of words and images came at a time where I wasn't feeling particularly motivated or creative. You see I had let my self come down with a case of "Comparisonitis". The seriously infectious condition which makes you compare yourself to others and whose symptoms can include; a feeling of inadequacy, artist block, tears and even tantrums.
